Our client wanted to design a memorial for world renowned American tennis player and professional golfer, the late Althea Gibson. She was one of the first Black athletes to cross the color line of international tennis and stood for women's rights as an activist both on and off the court. Among her most accomplished feats, she was also an alumna of Florida A & M University and was until recently decided that she should be celebrated on campus in a major way.
We wanted to style the entire complex with elements of tennis while paying homage to Althea Gibson. From approach to site entry to entry onto the tennis courts there are subtle nods to the renowned athlete and the sport.
Our client was able to get the project approved and construction is pending.
